أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلادٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا تَقُولُونَ فِي الصُّرَعَةِ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : الَّذِي لا يَصْرَعُهُ الرِّجَالُ ، قَالَ : الصُّرَعَةُ الَّذِي يُمْسِكُ نَفْسَهُ عِنْدَ الْغَضَبِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What do you call overpowering someone? The narrator says: I replied: That a person overpowers others. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Overpowering (or strength) is that a person controls himself at the time of anger.
