Hadith 5670

أَخْبَرَنَا السَّامِيُّ ، وَعُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لا يَحِلُّ لامْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلاثِ لَيَالٍ ، يَلْتَقِيَانِ ، فَيُعْرِضُ هَذَا وَيُعْرِضُ هَذَا ، وَخَيْرُهُمَا الَّذِي يَبْدَأُ بِالسَّلامِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "It is not permissible for a Muslim to remain estranged from his brother for more than three days. When the two meet, one turns his face away and the other also turns his face away. The better of the two is the one who initiates the greeting of peace (salam)."
