Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The noble wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Maymunah, informed me: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up in the morning and was distressed. Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Today the color of your face seems changed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jibreel had promised me that he would come to meet me last night, but he did not meet me. By Allah, he does not break his promise. Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spent that day in the same state (i.e., in a state of distress), then he remembered the puppy that was under our bed. By your order, it was taken out, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sprinkled water on that place with his blessed hand. In the evening, Sayyiduna Jibreel came; he came to meet you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: You had promised me that you would come to meet me last night. He replied: Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that dogs be killed, to the extent that he even ordered the killing of the dog (that guarded) the small garden. However, he spared the dog (that guarded) the large garden.
