Hadith 5625

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، أَنَّ نَاعِمًا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ ، سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى حِمَارًا مَوْسُومَ الْوَجْهِ ، فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : " وَاللَّهِ لا أَسِمُهُ إِلا أَقْصَى شَيْءٍ مِنَ الْوَجْهِ ، فَأَمَرَ بِحِمَارِهِ ، فَكُوِيَ فِي جَاعِرَتَيْهِ ، فَهُوَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ كَوَى الْجَاعِرَتَيْنِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a donkey that had been branded on its face, so he disapproved of this. He said: "By Allah, I will brand it on the part of its body that is farthest from its face." Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered regarding that donkey, so it was branded on its thighs. This was the first animal to be branded on its thighs.
