Ubadah bin Tamim narrates from his uncle: He saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) lying on his back in the mosque. The Prophet had placed one of his legs over the other.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The action which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed here means: He had both his legs straight and placed one leg over the other. This is not the action which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade. This statement is contrary to the view of one who is not proficient in the knowledge of hadith and believes that there are contradictions and differences in the narrations attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
