Hadith 5532

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ ، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا ، وَبِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ ، وَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ ، قَالَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَمَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ " .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to bed, he would recite: "O Allah! In Your name I live (i.e., wake up) and in Your name I die (i.e., sleep)." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up, he would recite: "All praise is for Allah, who gave us life after causing us to die (i.e., sleep), and to Him is the return."
