Hadith 5510

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَفِي يَدِهِ قُصَّةٌ مِنْ شَعْرٍ ، يَقُولُ : مَا بَالُ نِسَاءٍ يَجْعَلْنَ فِي رُؤُوسِهِنَّ مِثْلَ هَذَا ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَا مِنِ امْرَأَةٍ تَجْعَلُ فِي رَأْسِهَا شَعْرًا مِنْ شَعْرِ غَيْرِهَا ، إِلا كَانَ زُورًا " ، قَالَ الشَّيْخُ : الرِّوَايَةُ كُلُّهَا زُورٌ ، وَالصَّوَابُ زُورٌ أَنْ تُضَمَّ الزَّايُ .
Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) stated this matter from the pulpit while holding a bunch of artificial hair in his hand. He said: What is wrong with women that they use this in their hair? I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Any woman who uses another's hair in her own, this is deception." The Sheikh states: In all narrations, the word "zawr" (meaning deception) is used, but the correct pronunciation is "zawr," which can be read with either a kasrah or a dammah.
