Hadith 5500

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ، وَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ ، فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ، فَطَرَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ ، فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، فَكَانَ يَخْتِمُ بِهِ ، وَلا يَلْبَسُهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a gold ring made. He placed its stone towards the palm of his hand. People also had gold rings made. One day, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) took it off. People also took off their rings. After that, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a silver ring made. He used it to seal (documents). He did not wear it.
