Hadith 5469

أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ وَسَّاجٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ ، وَكَانَ أَسَنَّ أَصْحَابِهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، فَغَلَّفَهَا بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ ، حَتَّى قَنَأَ لَوْنُهَا سَوَادًا ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ غَدَوْتُ ، فَقُلْتُ : قَنَأَ لَوْنُهَا سَوَادًا ، قَالَ : لَمْ أَقُلْ سَوَادًا " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, among his companions, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was the eldest. He used to dye his hair with a mixture of henna and katam (a type of herb) until (the color of his hair) became black. The narrator says: The next time I went to him, I said: (In the narration, these words are:) The color was close to black, so (the teacher narrator) said: I did not say: black.
