Abu Ahwas ‘Awf bin Malik narrates from his father: I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). My condition was disheveled. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: Do you have wealth? I replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: What kind of wealth? I replied: Allah Almighty has granted me all kinds of wealth—camels, slaves, and goats. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When Allah Almighty has granted you wealth, its sign should be visible on you. The narrator states: I asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! What is your opinion about a person with whom I stay as a guest, but he does not honor me nor show hospitality, and then, at another time, he stays with me as a guest—should I repay his behavior? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: No, rather you should show him hospitality. Abu Ahwas ‘Awf bin Malik bin Nadlah’s father was a companion.
