Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyidah Sawdah bint Zam’ah (may Allah be pleased with her) had a goat that died. She said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), such-and-such has died. By this she meant the goat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why did you not take its skin? Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Should we take the skin of a goat that has died? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah the Exalted has said: “Say, I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden to an eater except it be carrion or flowing blood.”
(Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said) There is no harm; tan its skin and benefit from it. Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: So we sent it and its skin was tanned, then we made a water bag from it until it developed a hole.
