Hadith 5337

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Milk mixed with water was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). On his right side, a Bedouin was sitting, and on his left side was Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from it, then, giving it to the Bedouin, said: "The right-hand side has the first right."

(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) These two actions are from two different occasions, and this is evidenced by the narration transmitted from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), in which it is mentioned that a drink was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and on his right side was a boy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sought permission from him to give his leftover portion to someone else instead, whereas in the narration transmitted from Sayyiduna Anas, it is mentioned that milk mixed with water was presented, and on the right side of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was a Bedouin. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not seek permission from him, as is mentioned in the narration transmitted from Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding seeking permission. So this will guide you to the fact that these are two different actions that occurred on two different occasions; this is not an incident from the same occasion.
