Sayyiduna Abu Shurayh Ka‘bi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good words or remain silent. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest. The special hospitality for him will be for one day and one night, general hospitality will be for three days, and whatever is beyond that will be considered charity. However, it is not permissible for the guest to stay so long that he puts the host in difficulty.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The name of Sayyiduna Abu Shurayh Ka‘bi is Khuwaylid bin ‘Amr. He is among the eminent Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). He was counted among the people of Hijaz. He passed away in 86 AH.
