Hadith 5286

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدٍ الْحَمِيدِ ، عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ غَزْوَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي مَجْهُودٌ ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى بَعْضِ نِسَائِهِ ، فَقَالَتْ : وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ نَبِيًّا ، مَا عِنْدِي إِلا مَاءٌ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى أُخْرَى ، فَقَالَتْ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ، حَتَّى قُلْنَ كُلُّهُنَّ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ يُضِيفُ هَذَا اللَّيْلَةَ ، رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ ، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، فَقَالَ : أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَانْطَلَقَ بِهِ إِلَى رَحْلِهِ ، فَقَالَ لامْرَأَتِهِ : هَلْ عِنْدَكِ شَيْءٌ ؟ قَالَتْ : لا ، إِلا قُوتُ صِبْيَانِي ، قَالَ : فَعَلِّلِيهِمْ بِشَيْءٍ ، فَإِذَا دَخَلَ ضَيْفُنَا ، فَأَضِيئِي السِّرَاجَ ، وَأَرِيهِ أَنَّا نَأْكُلُ ، فَإِذَا أَهْوَى لِيَأْكُلَ قَوْمِي إِلَى السِّرَاجِ حَتَّى تُطْفِئِيهِ ، قَالَ : فَقَعَدُوا وَأَكَلَ الضَّيْفُ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ ، غَدَا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : لَقَدْ عَجِبَ اللَّهُ مِنْ صَنِيعِكُمَا اللَّيْلَةَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He said: I am in need. The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent a message to one of his noble wives, and she replied: By the One who has sent you with the truth, I have nothing except water. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) sent a message to another wife, and she also gave the same reply, until all the wives gave similar answers. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: Who will host him tonight? May Allah have mercy on him. An Ansari stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! I will host him. He took the man with him to his house. He said to his wife: Do you have anything to eat? She replied: No, only food for the children. The Ansari said: Distract them with something, and when our guest comes in, light the lamp and make it appear as if we are eating. When he reaches for the food, go to the lamp and extinguish it. The narrator says: So they all sat down, and only the guest ate the food. The next morning, the Ansari came to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he said: Allah was very pleased with what you both (husband and wife) did last night.
