Hadith 524

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ حَرْمَلَةَ بْنِ عِمْرَانَ التُّجِيبِيِّ ، أَنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيّ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ ، أَنَّ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ ، أَرَادَ سَفَرًا ، فقَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ أَوْصِنِي ، قَالَ : " اعْبُدِ اللَّهَ لا تُشْرِكْ بِهِ شَيْئًا " ، قَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ زِدْنِي ، قَالَ : " إِذَا أَسَأْتَ ، فَأَحْسِنْ " ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ زِدْنِي ، قَالَ : " اسْتَقِمْ وَلْيَحْسُنْ خُلُقُكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to go on a journey. He said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Please advise me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Worship Allah, the Exalted, and do not associate anyone with Him. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Give me more. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you do evil, then do good as well. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Give me more. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Remain steadfast and your character should be good.
