Hadith 5123

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ الضَّرِيرُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ الْمُعَلِّمُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يقولان : قال رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا يَحِلُّ لِرَجُلٍ أَنْ يُعْطِيَ عَطِيَّةً أَوْ هِبَةً ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ فِيهَا ، إِلا الْوَالِدَ فِيمَا يُعْطِي وَلَدَهُ ، وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعْطِي عَطِيَّةً أَوْ هِبَةً ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ فِيهَا ، كَمَثَلِ الْكَلْبِ أَكَلَ حَتَّى شَبِعَ ، ثُمَّ قَاءَ ، ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَى قَيْئِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrate: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not permissible for any person, when he gives a gift or grants a present, to take it back, except for a father regarding what he has given to his child as a gift. Whoever gives something as a gift or grant and then takes it back, his example is like that of a dog who, when it eats to its fill, then vomits, and then returns to its vomit."
