Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) intended to buy and free Barirah from the Ansar. Her owners set the condition that the right of wala’ (allegiance) would remain with them. Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) accepted this condition. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) informed him about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The right of wala’ belongs to the one who sets free. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit and said: What is wrong with people that they stipulate conditions which are not permitted in the Book of Allah? (Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates) Barirah also had a husband. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave that woman the choice: if she wished, she could remain with her husband as before, or if she wished, she could separate from him. So that woman chose to separate from him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came home and there was a leg or shoulder of a goat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Did you not cook this meat? She replied: This was given to Barirah as charity, and she gave it to us as a gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Cook it, for it was charity for her and a gift for us.
