Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: She intended to buy Barirah in order to free her, but her owners set the condition of retaining her wala (allegiance). This matter was mentioned to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Buy her and set her free, for the right of wala belongs to the one who sets free. Once, meat was given to the Prophet (peace be upon him) as a gift, so I said to the Prophet (peace be upon him): This was given to Barirah as charity. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: It was charity for her and a gift for us. The narrator named Abdur Rahman states: The husband of this woman was a free man.
