Hadith 5113

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ خَرَجَ فَرَأَى حُلَّةَ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ تُبَاعُ فِي السُّوقِ ، فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، اشْتَرِهَا فَالْبَسْهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، وَحِينَ يَقْدَمُ عَلَيْهِ الْوفُودُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ مَنْ لا خَلاقَ لَهُ " ، قَالَ : أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِثَلاثِ حُلَلٍ مِنْهُ ، فَكَسَا عُمَرَ حُلَّةً ، وَكَسَا عَلِيًّا حُلَّةً ، وَكَسَا أُسَامَةَ حُلَّةً ، فَأَتَاهُ عُمَرُ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قُلْتَ : فِيهَا مَا قُلْتَ ، ثُمَّ بَعَثْتَ بِهَا إِلَيَّ ، فَقَالَ : " بِعْهَا ، فَاقْضِ بِهَا حَاجَتَكَ ، أَوْ شُقَّهَا خُمُرًا بَيْنَ نِسَائِكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) went (to the market). He saw a cloak made of brocade being sold in the market, so he went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Please buy this and wear it on Fridays and when delegations come to you. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Only that person will wear it who will have no share in the Hereafter. The narrator says: Then three cloaks of the same kind were presented to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so he gave one cloak to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), one to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and one to Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), you had said such and such about this, and now you have sent it to me. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sell it and fulfill your needs with it, or cut it and make cloaks for your wives.
