Hadith 5043

أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ وَرْدَانَ بِالْفُسْطَاطِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ رَجُلا لَمْ يَعْمَلْ خَيْرًا قَطُّ وَكَانَ يُدَاينُ النَّاسُ ، فَيَقُولُ لِرَسُولِهِ : خُذْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ ، وَاتْرُكْ مَا تَعَسَّرَ ، وَتَجَاوَزْ لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا هَلَكَ ، قَالَ اللَّهُ : هَلْ عَمِلْتَ خَيْرًا قَطُّ ؟ قَالَ : لا ، إِلا أَنَّهُ كَانَ لِي غُلامٌ ، وَكُنْتُ أُدَاينُ النَّاسَ ، فَإِذَا بَعَثْتُهُ لِيَتَقَاضَى ، قُلْتُ لَهُ : خُذْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ ، وَاتْرُكْ مَا تَعَسَّرَ ، وَتَجَاوَزْ لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ يَتَجَاوزُ عَنَّا ، قَالَ اللهُ تَعَّالى : قَدْ تَجَاوَزْتُ عَنْكَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَمْ يَعْمَلْ خَيْرًا قَطُّ أَرَادَ بِهِ سِوَى الإِسْلامِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "There was a man who had never done any good deed. He used to lend money to people. He would say to his agents: 'Take back the loan from the one who is well-off, and leave the one who is in difficulty and forgive him, so that Allah the Exalted may also forgive us.' The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, says: When he passed away, Allah the Exalted asked: 'Have you ever done any good deed?' He replied: 'No, except that I had a servant, and I used to lend money to people. When I sent this servant to collect, I would say to him: Take from the one who gives easily, and leave the one who is in difficulty and forgive him, so that Allah the Exalted may also forgive us.' So Allah the Exalted said: 'Indeed, I have also forgiven you.'"
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "He had never done any good deed" means: other than accepting Islam, he had not done any good deed.
