Hadith 4971

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ زُهَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الثُّنَيَّا ، إِلا أَنْ تُعْلَمَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ في غَيْرِ الزُّهْرِيُّ ثَبْتٌ ، فَإِنَّمَا اخْتَلَطَ عَلَيْهِ صَحِيفَةُ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، فَكَانَ يَهِمُ فِيهَا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade (undefined) exceptions, but when it is specified regarding it (then the ruling is different). (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The narrator named Sufyan bin Husain is reliable in narrating from others besides Zuhri, however, regarding Zuhri’s manuscripts, he became confused. While narrating from them, he would fall into error.
