أَخْبَرَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ الْقَزَّازُ أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْمُعَدِّلُ بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الطُّفَاوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ أَعْتَقَ غُلامًا لَهُ عَنْ دُبُرٍ ، وَاسْمُ الْغُلامِ يعقوب ، والذي أعتقه يدعى أبا مذكور ، ولم يكن له مال غيره ، فدعا به النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ يَشْتَرِي هَذَا مِنِّي ؟ " فَاشْتَرَاهُ مِنْهُ نُعَيْمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَخُو بَنِي عَدِيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ بِثَمَانِ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ ، ثُمَّ دَعَا بِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " إِذَا كُنْتَ فَقِيرًا فَأَبْدَأُ بِنَفْسِكَ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلا فَعَلَى عِيَالِكَ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلا فَعَلَى قَرَابَتِكَ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلا فَهَا هُنَا وَهَهُنَا " ، وَكَانَ إِذَا حَدَّثَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ عَبْدًا قِبْطِيًّا مَاتَ عَامَ أَوَّلٍ .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man from the Ansar freed his slave as a mudabbar. The name of this slave was Yaqub. And the person who freed him was named Abu Mazkur. That person had no wealth other than this slave. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) called for the slave and inquired. He said, "Who will buy him from me?" So Sayyiduna Nu'aym bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), who belonged to Banu 'Adi bin Ka'b, bought the slave from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for eight hundred dirhams. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called that person and said, "When you are poor, begin with yourself. If you have surplus wealth, spend it on your wife and children. If there is still surplus, spend it on your relatives. If there is still surplus, then spend it here and there (i.e., in the way of Allah)." The narrator states: Whenever Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith, he would also say: He was a Coptic slave who died within a year.
