Hadith 4895

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ فَاعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا ، ثُمَّ كُلْهَا ، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا فَأَدِّهَا إِلَيْهِ " .
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a lost item that is found. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Announce it for one year. If its owner is not found, then remember its pouch and the string with which its mouth is tied, then you may use it yourself. If its owner comes (then give him an amount like it).
