أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اعْبُدُوا الرَّحْمَنَ وَأَفْشُوا السَّلامَ وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ تَدْخُلُوا الْجِنَانَ " قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اعْبُدُوا الرَّحْمَنَ " لَفْظَةٌ يَشْتَمِلُ اسْتِعْمَالُهَا عَلَى شُعَبٍ كَثِيرَةٍ بِاخْتِلافِ أَحْوَالِ الْمُخَاطَبِينَ فِيهَا قَدْ تَقَدَّمَ ذِكْرُنَا لِهَذَا الْوَصْفِ فِيمَا قَبْلُ وَقَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَفْشُوا السَّلامَ " لَفْظَةٌ أُطْلِقَتْ عَلَى الْعُمُومِ لا يَجِبُ اسْتِعْمَالُهُ فِي كُلِّ الأَحْوَالِ ، لأَنَّ الْمَرْءَ إِذَا اسْتَعْمَلَ ذَلِكَ فِي كُلِّ الأَحْوَالِ ، عَلَى كُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ ، ضَاقَ بِهِ الأَمْرُ ، وَخَرَجَ إِلَى مَا لَيْسَ فِي وُسْعِهِ ، وَتَكَلَّفَ إلْزَامَ الْفَرَائِضِ بِالرَّدِّ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَإِذَا كَانَ الرَّدُّ هُوَ الْفَرْضُ صَارَ عَلَى الْكِفَايَةِ ، كَانَ ابْتِدَاءُ السَّلامِ الَّذِي لَيْسَ لَهُ تَخْصِيصٌ فَرْضٌ أَوْلَى أَنْ يَكُونَ عَلَى الْكِفَايَةِ ، وَقَوْلُهُ : " أَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ " أَمْرٌ نُدِبَ إِلَى اسْتِعْمَالِهِ ، وَحُثَّ عَلَيْهِ قَصْدًا لِطَلَبِ الثَّوَابِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Worship the Most Merciful, spread peace among yourselves, feed (others), and enter Paradise.”
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Worship the Most Merciful” consists of such words that, regarding the differences among the addressed, can be used for various categories, which we have mentioned earlier, along with this description. And the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Spread peace among yourselves” consists of such words that are applied generally, but it is not obligatory to use them in all situations. Because if a person uses them in all situations, and for every individual, then the matter will become a cause of hardship, and this will go beyond a person’s capacity, and in this case, it would become obligatory upon Muslims to reply to the greeting, because replying to the greeting is obligatory. So this will suffice, so the greeting that is initiated, for which there is no specification of obligation, it is appropriate that it should suffice. The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Feed (others).” This is such a command that acting upon it is recommended, and its purpose is to encourage (people) to attain reward.
