Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We set out with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him); the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had appointed him as our leader. We were to fight the people of the tribe of Fazarah. When we reached near the water, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered us, so we camped there. After we had performed the morning prayer, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered us to launch a sudden attack. We killed many people who were around the water. Sayyiduna Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I saw behind the people that some children and some women were going, so I went after them, fearing that they might reach the mountain before me. I shot an arrow which fell between them and the mountain, so they stopped. I caught them and drove them to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Until I reached the water, among them was a woman from the tribe of Fazarah who was wearing leather clothes, and with her was her daughter, who was the most beautiful woman among the Arabs. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave her daughter to me as a reward. I did not uncover her until I reached Madinah. Then I spent the night and still did not uncover her. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) met me and said: Give me that woman as a gift. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! I like her very much, and I have not even uncovered her yet. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent and did not say anything to me. Then the next day, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) met me in the market and said: O Salamah, give me that woman as a gift. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! I have not even uncovered her, but in any case, she is for you, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent a message to the people of Makkah. They had some Muslim prisoners, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave that woman as ransom for those prisoners and freed those people in exchange for her.
