Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever is unique in shedding someone’s blood, his equipment will belong to him. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) obtained the equipment of twenty-one men that day. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), “Whoever is unique in shedding someone’s blood, his equipment will belong to him,” (and his statement:) “Whoever kills someone, his equipment will belong to him,” both mean the same thing: if a single person kills someone, then the slain person’s equipment will go to him when he is unique in killing him. And if a group shares in killing someone, then the equipment will be divided among them. The reason is: the cause found in one killer is also found in several killers when they share in someone’s blood, so their ruling and the ruling of a single person will be the same.
