Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) received wealth from fay’, he would distribute it on the same day. He (peace be upon him) would give a married man two shares and a single man one share. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) There is a possibility that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) received wealth from fay’ and distributed it on the same day, giving a married man two shares and a single man one share, (it is possible) this payment was made from the wealth of khums, because he (peace be upon him) used to give different types of payments to married and single men.
