Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would receive spoils of war, he would instruct Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) to announce among the people, so the people would bring their share of the spoils. (On one occasion) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took out the "khums" (one-fifth) from it and distributed the remaining wealth. After this, a man came with a rope made of hair. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Did you not hear Bilal's announcement, which he made three times? He replied: Yes (I heard it). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Then why did you not bring it earlier? The man presented his excuse to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will be such that even if you bring it on the Day of Resurrection, I will not accept it from you."
