Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Spoils of war were not made lawful for any nation before you. (In earlier times) a fire would descend from the sky and consume the spoils of war." (The narrator states) On the occasion of the Battle of Badr, when people rushed upon the spoils of war, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "If it had not been decreed by Allah beforehand, a great punishment would have afflicted you because of what you had taken."
