Sayyiduna Riyah bin Rabi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We participated in a battle along with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The commander of the vanguard was Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him). On the way, a slain woman was found, so people began to express astonishment that the people of the vanguard had killed her. When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived there, he stopped by that woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: She did not take part in the fighting. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered: Go to Khalid (and convey this message to him): Do not kill children and laborers (non-combatants).
