Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had besieged the people of Ta’if, but was not able to inflict any harm upon them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If Allah wills, we shall depart (tomorrow). The companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) submitted: Shall we depart without achieving victory? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Then attack them again tomorrow. They attacked them, and many of them were wounded. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Tomorrow we shall depart. The people liked this, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) smiled.
