Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates: In the blessed era of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, there were some people who were hypocrites. When the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, would set out to participate in a battle, these people would stay behind and would be pleased at staying behind. Then, when the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, would return, they would present excuses to him and would swear oaths, and they liked that they be praised for something they had not done. So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Never think of those who rejoice for what they have done..."
