Hadith 4636

أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : الرَّجُلُ يُقَاتِلُ حَمِيَّةً ، وَيُقَاتِلُ شَجَاعَةً ، وَيُقَاتِلُ رِيَاءً ، فَأَنَّى ذَلِكَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " مَنْ قَاتَلَ لِتَكُونَ كَلِمَةُ اللَّهِ هِيَ الْعُلْيَا ، فَهُوَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: One person fights out of zeal, another fights to show bravery, and another fights for display—so which of these is considered to be in the way of Allah? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Whoever participates in jihad so that Allah’s religion may be exalted, he is considered to be in the way of Allah.
