Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him on the expedition of Dhat al-Salasil. His companions requested him to light a fire, but Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade them from doing so. The people spoke to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) about this matter. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) then spoke to Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding it, so Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever lights a fire, I will throw him into that fire. The narrator states: When these people confronted the enemy, they defeated the enemy (the enemy fled). They intended to pursue the enemy, but Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) stopped them. When this army returned, the people mentioned this matter before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained about Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I did not permit them to light a fire because the enemy would have realized their small numbers, and I did not allow them to pursue the enemy because if the enemy received reinforcements from somewhere, they would overpower them. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) praised his decision. He submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who is the most beloved to you? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Why are you asking this? He replied: So that I may also love the one whom you love. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Aisha. He asked: Among the men, who is it? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Abu Bakr.
