Hadith 4519

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were present with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) at Hunayn. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about a man who was known as a Muslim: "He is among the people of Hellfire." When the battle began, that man fought fiercely and was wounded. It was reported to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! The man about whom you said he is among the people of Hellfire, he fought very bravely today and has died." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He will go to Hell." Some of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were confused about this. While they were in this state, it was reported that he had not died, but was severely wounded. When night fell, his pain increased due to his wounds, so he committed suicide. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed about this, he said: "Allahu Akbar! I bear witness that I am indeed the servant of Allah and His Messenger." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) to announce among the people: "Only a Muslim will enter Paradise, and Allah supports this religion even through a sinful person."
