Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Ibn Lutbiyyah as the supervisor for collecting zakat. When he returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took account from him. He said: "This is for you, and this is a gift that was given to me as a present." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not stay in your parents' house so that your gift would come to you there?" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Zuhr prayer, then stood up to deliver a sermon. After praising and glorifying Allah, he said: "To proceed! What is the matter with people? Allah Almighty has appointed us as guardians over certain things, and we appoint some people as supervisors over some of those matters, and in this regard, we take some work from people. Then one of them comes to me and says: 'This is for you, and this was given to me as a gift.' Why does that person not stay in his parents' house so that his gift comes to him by itself? By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, whoever takes anything unlawfully, then when he comes on the Day of Resurrection, he will be carrying that thing on his neck. So I should not find any person who comes on the Day of Resurrection carrying a camel on his neck, and it is making a sound, or carrying a cow and it is mooing, or carrying a goat and it is bleating." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spread his blessed hand, until I saw the whiteness of his armpit. I saw this with my own eyes while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying this, and my ears heard it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware! Have I conveyed (the message)?" He said this three times. Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) is a witness to this, because at that time he was sitting shoulder to shoulder with me.
