Hadith 4514

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَابِطٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ لِكَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ : يَا كَعْبَ بْنَ عُجْرَةَ " أَعَاذَنَا اللَّهُ مِنْ إِِمَارَةِ السُّفَهَاءِ " . قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَا إِِمَارَةُ السُّفَهَاءِ ؟ قَالَ : " أُمَرَاءُ يَكُونُونَ بَعْدِي لا يَهْتَدُونَ بِهَدْيِي ، وَلا يَسْتَنُّونَ بِسُنَّتِي ، فَمَنْ صَدَّقَهُمْ بِكِذْبِهِمْ وَأَعَانَهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ ، فَأُولَئِكَ لَيْسُوا مِنِّي وَلَسْتُ مِنْهُمْ ، وَلا يَرِدُوا عَلَيَّ حَوْضِي ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يُصَدِّقْهُمْ بِكِذْبِهِمْ ، وَلَمْ يُعِنْهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ ، فَهُمْ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُمْ ، وَسَيَرِدُونَ عَلَيَّ حَوْضِي ، يَا كَعْبَ بْنَ عُجْرَةَ : الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ ، وَالصَّلاةُ بُرْهَانٌ ، أَوْ قَالَ : قُرْبَانٌ ، يَا كَعْبَ بْنَ عُجْرَةَ : النَّاسُ غَادِيَانِ : فَمُبْتَاعٌ نَفْسَهُ فَمُعْتِقُهَا ، وَبَائِعٌ نَفْسَهُ فَمُوبِقُهَا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him): O Ka'b bin Ujrah! May Allah protect us from the rule of fools. The people asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What is meant by the rule of fools? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After me, there will come some rulers who will not follow guidance, nor will they follow my Sunnah. So whoever affirms their lies and helps them in their oppression, then such people will have nothing to do with me, and I will have nothing to do with them, and they will not be able to come to me at my Pond. And whoever does not affirm their lies and does not help them in their oppression, he will have a connection with me and I will have a connection with him, and soon he will come to me at my Pond. O Ka'b bin Ujrah! Fasting is a shield, charity erases sin, prayer is a proof (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) and a means of attaining closeness. O Ka'b bin Ujrah! People leave their homes and bargain with themselves, so some people free themselves and some sell themselves and thus enslave themselves.
