Hasan al-Basri narrates: Sayyiduna ‘Aidh bin ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), went to ‘Ubaydullah bin Ziyad. He said: O my son! I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Indeed, the worst ruler is a tyrannical ruler.” So try to avoid being among them. ‘Ubaydullah bin Ziyad said: Please sit down, you are one of the bad individuals among the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He replied: Can there be any fault among the companions? The fault is in those who come after them and in others besides them.
