أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ الْيَهُودَ جَاءُوا إِِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرُوا لَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلا مِنْهُمْ وَامْرَأَةً زَنَيَا ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا تَجِدُونَ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ فِي شَأْنِ الرَّجْمِ ؟ " فَقَالُوا : نَفْضَحُهُمْ وَيُجْلَدُونَ . فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلامٍ : كَذَبْتُمْ ، إِِنَّ فِيهَا لآيَةَ الرَّجْمِ . فَأَتَوْا بِالتَّوْرَاةِ فَنَشَرُوهَا ، فَوَضَعَ أَحَدُهُمْ يَدَهُ عَلَى آيَةِ الرَّجْمِ ، فَقَرَأَ مَا قَبْلَهَا وَمَا بَعْدَهَا ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلامٍ : ارْفَعْ يَدَكَ ، فَرَفَعَ يَدَهُ ، فَإِِذَا فِيهَا آيَةُ الرَّجْمِ ، فَقَالُوا : صَدَقَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، إِِنَّ فِيهَا آيَةُ الرَّجْمِ . فَأَمَرَ بِهِمَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرُجِمَا " . قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ : فَرَأَيْتُ الرَّجُلَ يَجْنِئُ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ يَقِيهَا الْحِجَارَةَ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Some Jews came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They mentioned before him that a man and a woman from among them had committed adultery. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked them: "What ruling do you find in the Torah regarding stoning?" They replied: "We disgrace (those who commit this crime) and flog them." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have spoken falsely. There is a verse regarding stoning in the Torah." They brought the Torah and opened it. One of them placed his hand over the verse about stoning and read what came before and after it. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam said: "Lift your hand." When he lifted his hand, there was the verse regarding the command of stoning. So they said: "O Muhammad (peace be upon him)! He has spoken the truth; there is a verse regarding the command of stoning." So, according to the command of the Prophet (peace be upon him), that man and woman were stoned. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I saw that man leaning over the woman to protect her from the stones.
