أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مُكْرَمٍ بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَفْصٍ الأَبَّارُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ ، قَالَ : لَقِيتُ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : إِِنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ كَانَ يَحُكُّ الْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمَصَاحِفِ ، وَيَقُولُ : إِِنَّهُمَا لَيْسَتَا مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ، فَلا تَجْعَلُوا فِيهِ مَا لَيْسَ مِنْهُ . قَالَ أُبَيٌّ : قِيلَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فقَالَ لنا ، فنحن نقول . كم تعدون سورة الأحزاب من آية ؟ قال : قُلْتُ : ثَلاثًا وَسَبْعِينَ . قَالَ أُبَيٌّ : " وَالَّذِي يُحْلَفُ بِهِ إن كانت لتعدل سورة البقرة ولقد قرأنا فيها آية الرجم : الشَّيْخُ وَالشَّيْخَةُ فَارْجُمُوهُمَا الْبَتَّةَ نَكَالا مِنَ اللَّهِ ، وَاللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ " .
Zirr bin Hubaish narrates: I met Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him). I said to him: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) does not allow the inclusion of the Mu'awwidhatayn in the Noble Qur'an and says that these two are not part of the Qur'an, so do not include in the Qur'an that which is not part of it. Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) informed that this was presented to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said to us: Do you people say, how many verses do you count in Surah Ahzab? The narrator says, so I replied: Seventy-three verses. Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By the One in whose name oaths are sworn, it was as long as Surah Al-Baqarah, and we used to recite in it verses regarding the ruling of stoning. In it was this command: If a married man commits adultery with a married woman, then you must certainly stone them both. This is a punishment from Allah Almighty. Allah is Mighty and Wise.
