Hadith 4354

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو السَّلِيلِ ، عَنْ زَهْدَمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مُشَاةً ، فَأَتَيْنَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَسْتَحْمِلُهُ ، فَقَالَ : " وَاللَّهِ لا أَحْمِلُكُمُ الْيَوْمَ " ، أَوْ قَالَ : وَاللَّهِ لا أَحْمِلُكُمْ . قَالَ : فَلَمَّا رَجَعْنَا إِِلَى الْمَنْزِلِ ، أَوْ قَالَ : حِينَ رَجَعْنَا إِِلَى الْمَنْزِلِ ، أَتَاهُ قَطِيعٌ مِنْ إِِبِلٍ ، فَإِِذَا قَدْ بَعَثَ إِِلَيْنَا بِثَلاثٍ بُقْعِ الذُّرَى ، قَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ : أَنَرْكَبُ وَقَدْ حَلَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ ، فَقُلْنَا : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، إِِنَّكَ قَدْ حَلَفْتَ . قَالَ : " إِِنِّي وَاللَّهِ مَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ ، إِِنَّمَا حَمَلَكُمُ اللَّهُ ، وَمَا عَلَى الأَرْضِ مِنْ يَمِينٍ أَحْلِفُ عَلَيْهَا ، ثُمَّ أَرَى خَيْرًا مِنْهَا إِِلا أَتَيْتُهَا أَوْ أَتَيْتُهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were on foot and we went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask for animals for riding. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah! Today I will not give you animals for riding. (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) By Allah! I will not give you animals for riding. The narrator says: When we returned to our place of residence (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) when we started returning to our place of residence, at that time some camels were brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent three white-humped camels from among them to us. One of us said to another: Should we ride on them when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has already sworn (that he will not give us camels for riding)? So we went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! You have taken an oath. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah! I did not give you camels for riding, rather Allah Almighty has given you animals for riding. Whenever I take an oath about something on the face of the earth and then I see a situation better than that, I will do that which is better. (About one word here, the narrator is in doubt.)
