Hadith 4338

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَهِشَامِ بْنِ حُجَيْرٍ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " حَلَفَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ : لَيَطُوفَنَّ اللَّيْلَةَ بِتِسْعِينَ امْرَأَةً تَلِدُ كُلُّ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ غُلامًا يُقَاتِلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبُهُ أَوِ الْمَلِكُ : قُلْ : إِِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ، فَنَسِيَ ، وَأَطَافَ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ بِتِسْعِينَ امْرَأَةً فَمَا جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ إِِلا وَاحِدَةٌ بِشِقِّ غُلامٍ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَوْ قَالَ : إِِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَمْ يَحْنَثْ ، وَكَانَ أَدْرَكَ حَاجَتَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "Sayyiduna Sulaiman bin Dawood, peace be upon them, took an oath that he would go to his ninety wives in one night, and each woman among them would give birth to a boy who would fight in the way of Allah. Then his companion (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) or an angel said to him: Say 'InshaAllah' (if Allah wills), but he forgot to say it. He went to his ninety wives that night, but only one wife gave birth to an incomplete child. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If he had said 'InshaAllah', he would not have broken his oath and his wish would have been fulfilled."
