Hadith 4307

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ جَوْصَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بِدِمَشْقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْجَوْزَجَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَالِمٍ الأَشْعَرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي إِِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْلَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ جَالِسًا بِأَرِيحَا ، فَمَرَّ بِي وَاثِلَةُ بْنُ الأَسْقَعِ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الدَّيْلَمِيِّ فَأَجْلَسَهُ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ إِِلَيَّ ، فَقَالَ : عَجِبْتُ مِمَّا حَدَّثَنِي بِهِ هَذَا الشَّيْخُ يَعْنِي وَاثِلَةَ . قُلْتُ : مَا حَدَّثَكَ ؟ قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ ، فَأَتَاهُ نَفَرٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ ، فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِِنَّ صَاحِبًا لَنَا قَدْ أَوْجَبَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَعْتِقُوا عَنْهُ رَقَبَةً ، يُعْتِقُ اللَّهُ بِكُلِّ عُضْوٍ مِنْهَا عُضْوًا مِنْهُ مِنَ النَّارِ " . اسْمُ أَبِي عَبْلَةَ : شِمْرُ بْنُ يَقْظَانَ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ .
Ibrahim bin Abu Ablah narrates: I was sitting at the place of Ariha when Sayyiduna Wathilah bin Asqa’ passed by me. He was leaning with Abdullah bin Daylami. He made him sit there, then he came to me and said: I am greatly astonished at what this sheikh, that is, Sayyiduna Wathilah (may Allah be pleased with him), has narrated to me as a hadith. I asked: What hadith did he narrate to you? So he informed: (He narrated this) On the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, we were with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Some people from Banu Sulaym came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! One of our companions has made something obligatory upon himself (i.e., has committed a major sin). So the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Free a slave on his behalf. Allah Almighty will free each limb of that person from Hell in exchange for each limb of the slave. Abu Ablah’s name is Shamar bin Yaqtan bin Amir bin Abdullah.
