Hadith 4305

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا يَحِلُّ لامْرَأَةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ أَنْ تَحُدَّ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلاثٍ ، إِِلا عَلَى زَوْجٍ ، فَإِِنَّهَا تَحُدُّ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا ، لا تَكْتَحِلُ ، وَلا تَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا إِِلا ثَوْبَ عَصْبٍ ، وَلا تَمَسُّ طِيبًا إِِلا عِنْدَ أَدْنَى طُهْرِهَا إِِذَا اغْتَسَلَتْ مِنْ مَحِيضِهَا ، نُبْذَةَ قُسْطٍ وَأَظْفَارٍ " .
Sayyida Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not permissible for any woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for anyone who dies for more than three days, except in the case of her husband, for whom she should mourn for four months and ten days. (During her waiting period) she should not apply kohl, nor wear colored clothes, except for a simple garment. She should not apply perfume, except when she becomes pure after menstruation, at which time she may use a little qust or azfar (i.e., a specific type of perfume) when bathing."
