Ubaidullah bin Abdullah narrates: Abdullah bin Utbah wrote a letter to Umar bin Abdullah that you should go to Sayyida Sabi’ah bint Harith Aslamiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) and ask her about the verdict that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave regarding her pregnancy. The narrator says that Umar bin Abdullah went there and asked the woman; so the woman told him that she was the wife of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Khawlah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and had the honor of participating in the Battle of Badr. He passed away during the Farewell Pilgrimage. The woman gave birth to a child before the completion of four months and ten days after her husband’s death. When she became pure from postpartum bleeding, a man from Banu Abd al-Dar, Abu Sanabil bin Ba’kkak, came to her. He saw the woman adorned and said to her: Perhaps you intend to remarry before the completion of four months and ten days. The woman narrates: When I heard this from Abu Sanabil, I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), informed him of this, and asked about the matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you gave birth to the child, your waiting period (iddah) ended at that time.
