أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَهْمِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ قَيْسٍ ، تَقُولُ : أَرْسَلَ إِِلَيَّ زَوْجِي أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ بِطَلاقِي ، وَأَرْسَلَ إِِلَيَّ بِخَمْسَةِ آصُعٍ مِنْ شَعِيرٍ وَخَمْسَةِ آصُعٍ مِنْ تَمْرٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : مَالِي نَفَقَةٌ إِِلا هَذَا ، وَلا اعْتَدُّ فِي مَنْزِلِكُمْ ؟ قَالَ : لا . قَالَتْ : فَشَدَدْتُ عَلَيَّ ثِيَابِي ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " كَمْ طَلَّقَكِ ؟ " قُلْتُ : ثَلاثَةً . قَالَ : " صَدَقَ ، لَيْسَ لَكِ نَفَقَةٌ . وَاعْتَدِّي فِي بَيْتِ ابْنِ عَمِّكِ ابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ، فَإِِنَّهُ ضَرِيرُ الْبَصَرِ ، تَلْقِينَ ثَوْبَكِ عِنْدَهُ ، فَإِِذَا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُكِ فَآذِنِينِي " . قَالَتْ : فَخَطَبَنِي خُطَّابٌ مِنْهُمْ : مُعَاوِيَةُ وَأَبُو جَهْمٍ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِِنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ خَفِيفُ الْحَاذِ ، وَأَبُو جَهْمٍ فِيهِ شِدَّةٌ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ أَوْ يَضْرِبُ النِّسَاءَ أَوْ نَحْوَ هَذَا ، وَلَكِنْ عَلَيْكِ بِأُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ " .
Sayyida Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: My husband Abu Amr bin Hafs sent me a divorce. He sent me five saa‘ of barley and five saa‘ of dates. I said: Will I get only this much maintenance? I will not spend my waiting period (‘iddah) in your house. He said: No. Sayyida Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I took my shawl and went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I mentioned this matter before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: How many divorces did he give you? I replied: Three. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then the man has spoken the truth; you will not get maintenance. Spend your ‘iddah in the house of your paternal cousin Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind; there you may remove your shawl. When your ‘iddah is over, inform me. Sayyida Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Several people sent me marriage proposals, among them were Sayyidina Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyidina Abu Jahm (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Muawiyah is a poor man, and Abu Jahm is harsh with women (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) — he beats women, or words to that effect. However, you should marry Usamah bin Zayd.
