أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ الْمَكِّيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِِسْمَاعِيلَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الزِّبْرِقَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ ، قَالَ : مَرَّ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ أَوْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ بِمَرْطٍ فَاسْتَغْلاهُ ، فَمَرَّ بِهِ عَمْرُو بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ فَاشْتَرَاهُ وَكَسَاهُ امْرَأَتَهُ سُخَيْلَةَ بِنْتَ عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، فَمَرَّ بِهِ عُثْمَانُ أَوْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، فَقَالَ : مَا فَعَلَ الْمِرْطُ الَّذِي ابْتَعْتَ ؟ قَالَ عَمْرٌو : تَصَدَّقْتُ بِهِ عَلَى سُخَيْلَةَ بِنْتِ عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ . فَقَالَ : أَوَكُلُّ مَا صَنَعْتَ إِِلَى أَهْلِكِ صَدَقَةٌ ؟ قَالَ عَمْرٌو : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ ، فَذُكِرَ مَا قَالَ عَمْرٌو لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : صَدَقَ عَمْرٌو " كُلُّ مَا صَنَعْتَ إِِلَى أَهْلِكَ فَهُوَ صَدَقَةٌ عَلَيْهِمْ " .
Amr bin Umayyah narrates: Once, Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him), or perhaps Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), passed by a sheet and found it expensive. Then Amr bin Umayyah Zumari passed by that sheet, bought it, and gave it to his wife Sukheilah bint Ubaidah bin Harith bin Muttalib to wear. Later, Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him), or perhaps Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him), passed by them and inquired, "What did you do with that sheet you bought?" Amr replied, "I gave it to (my wife) Sukheilah bint Ubaidah." That person asked, "Will everything you give to your wife be counted as charity?" Amr said, "I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say this very thing." This matter was mentioned before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as Amr had stated, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Amr has spoken correctly. Whatever good you do for your wife, it becomes charity for her (i.e., you will receive its reward and recompense)."
