Hadith 4206

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الطَّسْتِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ مُعَاذَةَ الْعَدَوِيَّةِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَسْتَأْذِنُنَا فِي يَوْمِ الْمَرْأَةِ مِنَّا بَعْدَمَا أُنْزِلَتْ : تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ سورة الأحزاب آية 51 " . قَالَتْ مُعَاذَةُ : فَمَا تَقُولِينَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَكِ ؟ قَالَتْ : أَقُولُ : إِِنْ كَانَ ذَاكَ إِِلَيَّ لَمْ أُوثِرْ أَحَدًا عَلَى نَفْسِي .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: After the revelation of this verse, "You may put off whom you please among them, and you may take to yourself whom you please," the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to seek our permission regarding the day of that woman (whose turn it was). The female narrator named Mu'adhah asked (Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her): What would you say to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when he sought your permission? Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: I used to say, if it were in my power, I would not give preference to anyone else.
