Hadith 42

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ ، يَقُولُ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ : لا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ سورة النساء آية 95 دَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْدًا فَجَاءَ بِكَتِفٍ فَكَتَبَهَا فِيهِ ، فَشَكَا ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ضَرَارَتَهُ ، فَنَزَلَتْ : غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ سورة النساء آية 95 .
Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When this verse was revealed: “Those among the believers who sit (at home) are not equal...” the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him). He came with a shoulder blade (bone) and wrote this verse on it. Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) complained about his blindness, so this verse was revealed: “Except those who are afflicted (with disability).”
