Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out, he camped at the place of Thaniyyat al-Wada'. There, he (peace be upon him) saw some lamps and heard the sound of some women weeping, so he inquired: "What is the matter?" The people replied: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! These are some women whose husbands had contracted Mut'ah marriage with them." So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Mut'ah marriage abolishes divorce, 'iddah, and inheritance (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words), it makes it unlawful."
